I am an aspiring geophysicist with a strong foundation in applied geophysics, seismic exploration, and AI/ML applications in geosciences. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s at IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, and I’m passionate about using geophysical methods and data-driven approaches to tackle challenges in hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir characterization. Through my academic projects and internships, I’ve gained hands-on experience in seismic data processing and interpretation using Seismic Unix, DecisionSpace, and Hampson-Russell, along with petrophysical analysis and machine learning-based facies classification. I’ve also worked with GPS and geodetic data to study earth deformation and seismic hazards. I enjoy working in collaborative environments and am driven by the opportunity to contribute to the oil & gas industry, combining technical knowledge with AI/ML insights and innovative problem-solving.

Machine Learning Based Facies Prediction

A research-driven case study applying both supervised and unsupervised ML techniques for automated electrofacies prediction from well logs. Focused on robust feature engineering, model comparison, and validation against lithofacies data and nearby wells.

  • Analyzed well log data using histograms to study distribution and detect outliers.
  • Created missing PE logs to support facies type identification in wells lacking that information.
  • Prepared a few extra input features for both supervised and unsupervised rock classification approaches.
  • Implemented various supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms to classify electrofacies.
  • Validated predicted facies by comparing with known lithofacies and nearby well data.

Seismic Exploration Techniques: An Overview of Data Acquisition, Processing & Interpretation

  • Studied design and implementation of 2D/3D seismic surveys including geometry, shot/receiver placement, and field QC.
  • Performed seismic preprocessing tasks: deconvolution, filtering, velocity analysis, stacking, and migration.
  • Applied seismic interpretation workflows in DecisionSpace (Landmark) and Hampson-Russell for structural and stratigraphic analysis.
  • Interpreted seismic sections to identify faults, folds, hydrocarbon traps, and depositional features.
  • Explored use of seismic attributes for reservoir characterization and prospect evaluation.

Desktop Application - GUI of Basic Petrophysics Code

Objective: Developed a Python-based GUI application to perform and visualize petrophysical analysis, enabling geoscientists to streamline workflows for reservoir characterization and well log interpretation.

Key Features:

  • User Interface: Intuitive GUI for inputting petrophysical parameters (porosity, permeability, water saturation). Interactive data visualization including multi-track logs, histograms, and cross-plots.
  • Core Functionality: Automated calculations for Archie’s equation, shale volume, effective porosity, and parameter sensitivity analysis with real-time sliders.
  • Visualization: Depth-dependent log plotting, dynamic cross-plots (porosity vs. resistivity, saturation vs. permeability), and export-ready figures for reports.
  • Data Handling: Import/export support for industry-standard file formats (LAS, CSV, XLSX).

Technology Stack:

  • GUI Frameworks: PyQt5, Tkinter (for standalone deployment).
  • Backend: Python modules for petrophysical computations and Matplotlib/Seaborn for visualization.

To Estimate the Co-seismic Surface Deformation using GPS Measurements

IISc Bangalore

Date: May 2024 - July 2024

  • Investigated the 2015 Gorkha earthquake’s impact on crustal deformation and GPS sites velocities using GAMIT/GLOBK.
  • Processed GPS data from 26 GNSS and 12 IGS stations over the period of 2010-2016.
  • Generated earthquake movement-related time-series plots and evaluated earthquake-induced surface movements and deformation.
  • Converted CNX format data to RNX and performed data processing to ensure accuracy and completeness in the analysis.
